RECONSTRUCTION OR AESTHETIC EAR SURGERY
Aesthetic ear surgery, or otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent
ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. This
procedure should be performed by a surgeon who is a board certified
by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Risks and Complications
As with any surgery some risks and
complications are: bleeding, infection and swelling. A small percentage
of patients may develop a blood clot of the ear. Please talk with
your physician concerning these issues.
Surgical Procedure
Aesthetic ear surgery is generally
performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia.
Depending on the degree of difficulty, the time of the surgery will
vary.
RHINOPLASTY
Rhinoplasty is a surgery to reshape the contour of the
nose. This procedure is one of the most common of all plastic
surgeries. Rhinoplasty can increase, decrease, narrow or widen
the nose. This procedure often enhances one’s appearance.
Risks and Complication
As with any surgical procedure some risks and complications
may be: bleeding, infection, bruising, swelling, and small permanent
scarring. Choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon certified by
the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Procedure
Generally, depending upon the complication level takes
about 2 hours. This surgery is done as an outpatient surgery,
however the patient will need transportation following the procedure
for transportation home. Nasal packs or splints will be placed
in the nostrils to stabilize the septum.
Post Surgery
Following the surgery one can expect to have moderate
pain for about 48 hours. One may experience a headache and some
swelling or bruising on your face. Pain medication will be prescribed
as needed. Expect to elevate your head for the first 2 to 3 days
to reduce swelling and bleeding. Make sure to follow all of your
surgeon’s orders.
