Helpful Information
Plastic Surgery is a big decision. Some helpful hints in choosing the
right procedure and surgeon for you are:
Make sure you choose a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to perform the
procedure. For a listing of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons in your
area you can contact the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive
Surgeons (ASPS) or log onto ASPS.com.
In search of the right surgeon for a procedure, make an informed decision.
Ask a friend or medical establishment. Call the surgeon's office and ask
for information on the procedure as well as the surgeon. Preparing to
have a surgery is a difficult period. Look in the Who's Who and The Compendium
of Certified Medical Specialists, published by the American Board of Medical
Specialists.
Once you have compiled a list of doctors in your area make sure you ask
about credentialing. While good credentialing doesn't guarantee a successful
outcome, it will significantly increase the odds. Make sure your surgeon
has privileges at hospitals as well as surgery centers, and inquire about
the surgeon's training and board certifications.
Finally, after you narrow your choices, schedule a consultation. Keep
in mind that all good surgeons should be able to answer your questions.
